During FIRST Robotics Competition matches at large scale events, teams often collect data on the performance of their own robots along with their competitors in an effort to be informed enough to make the right choice when it comes time to select which teams form your “alliance” for the playoff matches. With events typically running matches of 6 teams and over 60 qualifying games, this data becomes cumbersome and error-prone when collected using a traditional pen and paper approach. Scouting App tackles this problem, providing teams a way to digitize the data collection process using Android tablets, which prompt “scouts” for input on team performance during the match, and allows for easy aggregation with export to Excel on a host computer for further analysis. The application is designed to work in the competition environment, working fully offline and stays future proof by allowing the creation of custom forms to adapt for different data collection strategies as the game evolves each year. I designed and developed this application for my own FRC team 2412, however it remains open source for any team to use and build off of.
