The Northwest Health Career Path website under the UW Medicine Office of Healthcare Equity is a site designed for students in elementary through postbac education stages interested in a medical profession, to connect them with programs and opportunities in the Northwest region to further explore this career path and gain real world experience.

The Abitua Lab is interested in studying early teleost development by pioneering the African turquoise killifish Nothobranchius furzeri as an alternative model organism to the more commonly studied zebrafish Danio rerio.

• Developed the single cell RNA sequencing atlas (SKiRA) for N. furzeri, as a desktop application designed to allow users to explore gene expression and cell types through UMAP reductions and histological reference images without any prior bioinformatics knowledge.
• Assisted in the development of a processing pipeline for in vivo lightsheet imaging aimed to quantify and track cell behaviors and trajectories during embryogenesis
• Used a comparative approach to annotate cell type labels and determine evolutionary differences in cell differentiation trajectories with the deep learning method SATURN

• Hosted exciting in-store private parties and events catered towards various age groups
• Attended to keyholder duties in reconciling cash drawers and maintaining deposit records
• Served as an in-store trainer, providing feedback, coaching and training to new and existing staff members in sales techniques and visual merchandising standards

The Nucleic Acid Extraction project team is focused on developing a low-cost, accessible device which automates the process of purifying nucleic acids from a patient sample in preparation for medical diagnostic testing. This device eliminates the requirements for a sterile laboratory space and trained technicians, both of which are not always available in rural communities.

• Develop and iterate on CAD designs of subsystems of the device
• Operate 3D printers to manufacture and critically assess prototypes through structured testing
• Conduct laboratory testing of the device with samples, comparing a traditional manual technician approach to the automated device's approach and analyze PCR results

Synaptech is UW's neurotechnology student association, providing members with access to neural interface hardware, project opportunities and workshops in neuroscience and technology. The organization also hosts a yearly hackathon in collaboration with CoNECT and the Allen Institute.

• Facilitate the check in/out and tracking process for members requesting access to hardware

FIRST Robotics is a global youth robotics organization hosting a yearly robot design challenge with regional, state, and world level championship events.
